Who is the Hangman?

The Hangman is the main antagonist of the The Ghostbane series. Having lived through out all of known time, this immortal has ruled with an iron first over the Dusk Empire. He is no regular Voidwalker. Legends have it that controls the the Voidsoul itself and can lay entire armies to waste. He has never been seen by any mortal eye but yet pulls all the delicate strings of the empire in the background, unseen.

The Night Company

The only ones who may have seen the Hangman personally is his personal task force of ancient, powerful Voidwalkers called the Night Company. Members of the Night Company are called Black Rangers. Legends of their origins are equally mysterious. Some say they were with the Hangman since the beginning. Other say that the Hangman created them himself. One thing is for certain, they are his sword in carrying out his will across the mass expanse of the Dusk Empire. They help run the government as leaders while also being a strong inquisition force to cut down any rebellions or hunt lost Voidwalkers. Whole cities have fallen against one member of the Night Company alone. There is a member of the Night Company for every type of Voidwalker. Kell Bloodthorne (The Tormentor), Ulkrane (The Mourner), Visk Yor (The Executioner), Nyrik Tol (The Deceiver), Xol Prax (Pale One), Ren Tell (The Headhunter), and Haggar Lin (The Faceless).

The Dusk Empire

Dusk is a global empire that spans across the known world. Also referred to as the Nation of the Black Sun. Dusk is a cruel place to live indeed. The sickly, disabled, and elderly are often taken away to where no one knows. Any ounce of rebellion or slander against the government leads to many being hauled off to the gulag prisons called Purgatories. Duskguards opperate as the military force of the Dusk nation. They wear steel masks the look like animal skulls of stags or coyotes and so on. The Hangman's personally army of Voidwalkers are called Shadows. Especially high ranking Shadows are joined into the Hangman's secret policing branch called Darkmount. Darkmount Agents make up the main bulk of hunting Voidwalkers that have not sided with the Dusk Empire. Lastly, their are the ghostly creatures that wander in the air called Watchers. Watchers are the eyes of the Hangman. Made from broken Essence and black smoke as bodies, these ghosts drift across the Empire, keeping an eye on all things and allowing the Hangman to ensure that his will is being carried out.
